"Sommer-automatic": The brand passes into history, the products look forward to the future

The Sommer-automatic brand has served users in the automation sector for decades, but now it is time to look to the future: the Zimmer Group has now decided to cease operations with its traditional Sommer-automatic brand and transfer these components to the umbrella brand of the Zimmer Group (formerly Zimmer Technische Werkstätten), which has for many years developed and manufactured gripper, handling and robot components with its orange-colored logo. The products which were previously available under the old, trusted Sommer-automatic logo will continue to be sold, but with the Zimmer Group brand.

This change-over, planned for completion by the end of 2016, affects both the components themselves and the web site, catalogs and brand image. This will enable the Zimmer Group to complete the brand transfer from Summer-automatic to the Zimmer Group umbrella brand.

This change is just one of a series of strategic decisions taken by the group in the last few years to prepare itself to meet the challenges of the future. For this purpose, the Zimmer Group has made wide-ranging changes to its internal structures and devoted itself to creating mechatronic products for Industrie 4.0. Among other things, it has redefined and restructured the group's areas of technological expertise, grouping them in six technology divisions: Handling Technology, Damping Technology, Linear Technology, Process Technology, Tooling Technology and Machine Tooling Technology. This streamlining and reorganization of the company structure has enabled the Zimmer Group to make better use of synergies between different technology divisions, speed up development processes and shorten the time to market.
